Can filter carbon be

Question: I heard that used carbon can be used again - once I heard that if it is soaked in clean water it will be good again, and I also heard that if it is put out in the sun it will be re-activated. Does anyone know if this works? I have a 55 gal tank and a 46 gal tank, and I try to change the carbon every 30 days, but I just relized that it is getting expensive!

Answer: No, filter carbon cannot be re-activated by soaking in clean water or drying in the sun. Heating can reactivate it but it takes very...very...very high temperature, way above even your household oven to do it! But you can save on carbon by doing water changes more frequently. The more often you change your water, the less time it will take for your carbon to become exhausted.
