Dead coral question?

Question: Recently, I was told that it is best to throw dead coral back in the sea as it provides a substrate for recolonisation. I have also heard that rubble from dead coral can prevent recolonisation because it is abrasive. Which is right?

Answer: Most of what is out there is dead coral that has provided a substrate for recolonization. The great barrier reef is a large batch of dead coral with live coral on top. abrasiveness has nothing to do with it. The more texture you have on the bottom of the ocean the more microhabitats you create for different life forms.
