Microsoft Access for the Mac?

Question: I just started school and they told me that I needed M Word, Excel and Access for some of the work we'll be doing. I have M Office 2004 on my computer, but I realised it didn't have Access so what am I supposed to do? If nothing else, is there a very good almost similar free alternative I can use?

Answer: The best DB for Mac is still FileMaker Pro. It's not cheap, at $299, and it isn't a replacement for Access. It's actually quite a bit BETTER than access, but it's different enough that you can't just slot it in. OpenOffice does have a Mac port that makes use of X11. It includes a DB component called Base, which is rather similar to Access.
